One of the best Pinot Noirs from the Mosel, with a character that would impress serious Burgundy lovers for its elegance and purity. The vines average 40-50 years-old planted on the grey slate of the Saar hills. The vineyards are farmed with an organic approach, except for a low application of Bordeaux mixture against mildew. The grapes are harvested in small trays and are vinified with wild yeasts and without any additives. Just a small dose of sulfites is applied to the casks before the juice is put in. Like all of Falkenstein's wines, it is vinified and aged in old wooden casks and is bottled directly from cask. The wine finishes without malolactic and is never chaptalized. This is fine Spatburgunder made in a more artisan way and more naturally than even most Burgundies!
