Organic and dry farmed (no irrigation) Pinot Noir vines: you don't find a lot of these in California. But this is exactly how the Canihan Vineyard in the southern Sonoma Coast just north of Carneros is farmed. Owner and farmer, Bill Canihan, was inspired by his forEbear, August Sieguist, a winegrower who immigrated from Switzerland in the 1900s.

The cool micro-climate of the Canihan Vineyard allows Bill to plant low-yielding and intensely flavored Pinot Noir grapes, as well as Cabernet Franc and Syrah. The folks at Horse & Plow Winery admire Bill's work so they work with him to craft this brilliant 2012 Pinot Noir called "The Gardener" to honor Bill's meticulous work. Winemaker Chris Condos vinified the grapes whole cluster for structure and depth of flavors. This is rich and intense, with a silky texture and vibrant acidity. High quality Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir without the high price. Small-batch crafted like most great wines. Only 221 cases produced.
