Marlborough Pinot Blanc, Pyramid Valley Vineyards 2011

Inventory Status: 1

This is always everyone's favorite, especially once people try it. It makes you wonder why Pinot Blanc remains such an overlooked wine. Of course, Pyramid Valley's Pinot Blanc is made extraordinarily. It is from a single vineyard, the Kerner Estate Vineyard, in a cool, strong-soiled site in the Waihopai Valley. Yields are low and the wine is vinified with natural yeasts without any additives, then aged in neutral oak puncheons for almost a year until it finishes naturally. The 2011 vintage took a bit longer, with aging lasting for 16 months. The end result is an irresistibly luscious wine, with off-dry fruity flavors and layers of spice. A refreshing, vibrant wine that's easily enjoyed, but serious depth. 350 cases made.

"Pale straw color with delicate aromas of honeyed peaches and lemon tart over nuances of straw and toasted almonds, the full-bodied 2011 Growers Collection Pinot Blanc is concentrated with a lovely, oily viscosity to the texture along with just enough acid to balance the richness through a long, savory, honey-laced finish. Drink it now to 2017+." 90/100 Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
