Marlborough Semillon Sec "Hille Vineyard", Pyramid Valley Vineyards 2007

Inventory Status: 2

95% Semillon and 5% Sauvignon Blanc. Just 3.2 tons/acre from this organically-farmed vineyard at the very top of the Brancott Valley. Very stony soils with a cool, long growing season that is perfect for Semillon. Harvesting was in four separate passes. The fruit was whole-cluster pressed and vinified using indigenous yeast in French oak 500-liter puncheons (50% new). The wine was aged on its lees for 15 months before bottling. Mind-bending Semillon. Herbally infused, with prickly pepper notes along with pickled citrus. Bright, elegant wine, full of minerality and verve. Most memorable. 13.5% alcohol. 450 cases produced.

"The 2007 Hille Vineyard Marlborough Semillon gives a grassy, herbaceous nose over notes of lemongrass and crushed rocks. Dry, very herbal and stony on the palate with crisp acid and medium body, it has a long earthy finish." 90/100 Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Straw yellow. First nose of sweet herbs--chervil, fennel, lovage--then opens abruptly to preserved lemon, alyssum, board wax, and toast.
Urgent, implosive, adamant; flavours of lemon curd, butterscotch, and wet stone; tight, electric, and very long. An intellectual, provocative wine." MIke Weersing, winemaker
