Because of its finicky ways, Monastrell (Mourvedre) thrives in very few vineyards in the world, foremost are Bandol in Provence and Jumilla in Spain. This thrilling wine--90% Monastrell and 10% Garnacha--comes from a organically farmed, high-elevation (over 800 meters) vineyard in Jumilla planted mostly with old-vine Monastrell (Mourvedre) in their own rootstock. The grapes produce intense, fully ripe wines with freshness and balance. The 2011 vintage featured a warm start to the summer then cooled down as harvest approached resulting in juicy ripeness and vibrant, fruity flavors. Vinified using only wild yeasts and aged in used French for 6 months. A brilliant wine from a great vineyard. Unbelievable value.
