Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru, Domaine Michel Niellon 2008

A great Chevalier-Montrachet from one of top producers of white Burgundy. Less than five barrels were produced due to the short crop from the domaine's tiny half-acre parcel. As always the Niellon style comes through with in the wines richness and ripe mouthfeel, yet it is very refined, with beautifully balanced elements in its bright acidity and luscious minerality. The power and structure of this wine point to a very long evolution.

"A strikingly complex nose that is ripe, pure and airy speaks elegantly of white flower, spice and subtle pear aromas that complement to perfection the rich and mouth coating flavors built on a base of fine minerality, all wrapped in a sappy and explosive finish that oozes dry extract. This is really a stunning effort in what has become a very long line of them for the 76 year old Michel Niellon." 96/100 Allen Meadows, Burghound

"Pale, green-tinged yellow. Lime, lemon, menthol and white flowers on the lively nose. Rich, ripe, concentrated and sweet, but with excellent verve and a crushed stone urgency to its citrus flavors. This boasts a wonderfully voluptuous texture cut by firm acidity. The long, echoing finish is thick and sappy. This set of wines offers a classic example of the way many 2008s from Chassagne-Montrachet combine serious sweetness with firm acidity, although in many wines from this vintage these two elements will require a bit of time to harmonize." 94/100 Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar
