Uruguay Juanico Region VCP Tannat, Pueblo del Sol 2010

Impossible not to like if you prefer earthy, full-bodied reds. This rich, inky Tannat is the traditional red of Uruguay since the grape variety was first planted by French Basque settlers in the 19th century. Though native to the South-West region of France, Tannat vines thrive even better in the warmer climate of Uruguay's hillsides, producing fully ripened grapes that result in robust but smooth, well-balanced wines. A great example is this delicious 2010 Tannat from Pueblo del Sol, a winery owned and run by Deicas family. This estate produces some of Uruguay's best wines from its vineyards in the Juanico winegrowing region. This Tannat is not just high in quality but also a better value than France's Madiran and Irouleguy wines.
