Santa Barbara Chardonnay La Chanson Argentee de Cuilliere, San Permis 2005

Crafted by proprietor, George Van Duzer, with the help of consulting winemaker, Thomas Rivers Brown (Schrader, Outpost, Maybach, Rivers-Marie), this gorgeous Chardonnay from a blend of Bien Nacido Vineyard and Solomon Hills Vineyard fruits. Robert Parker has described the 2004 vintage of this as "Chevalier-Montrachet-like"! And this 2005 in magnum is just as impressive. Toasty, fruity scents with firm acid balance on the ripe, fruity flavors that linger long on the palate. Who wudda thunk a 2005 Santa Barbara Chardonnay in magnum could be drinking this good today and be so affordable? Unbelievable deal and a real find!

"The 2005 Sans Permis Chardonnay (in magnum) was made by a producer who ended up being liquidated. That's a shame because this is a beautiful Chardonnay exhibiting lots of buttered citrus along with hints of hazelnut and brioche, a well-controlled, subtle use of new oak and a Meursault-like nutty, buttery, full-bodied mouthfeel. The wine's fresh acidity should keep it going for another 5+ years." 93/100 Robert M. Parker, Jr., The Hedonist Gazette, June 17, 2012
