A beautiful, seductive Cornas! "Premices Cornas is our seduction wine, with a grain of Cornas at the same time--its southern site of Patou gives our most aromatic wine," says Eric Durand. From a selection of plots in the southern portion of Cornas, areas producing soft refined wines. 100% Syrah planted on granite soils. Picking is key for the Durands, and so the grapes are harvested when their balance is at its best. The grapes are destemmed and cold macerated for 4 days prior to fermentation. Vinification lasts 18 days. The wine is matured for 12 months in used 600-liter casks. Concentrated nose of stone fruits. The mouth is full with soft but tight tannins. This wine is very generous and long and fresh on the finish. Just 500 cases produced. An amazing value for top quality Cornas from the great 2010 vintage!

"Very nicely defined, with mouthwatering acidity driving the anise, plum sauce and bitter cherry flavors, while dark tobacco, bay and olive notes flitter through the background. Pure and very racy on the finish. Best from 2013 through 2023. 500 cases made." 93/100 Wine Spectator

"(casks) rather dark robe; the nose is reserved--you have to work at it to achieve a semblance of cooked red fruit, a raspberry tart effect that has light black raisin and violet airs attached. The palate is similarly cautious next to many exuberantly fruited 2010 Cornas. It gains in expression, which is encouraging, and leaves a discreetly rich aftertaste. There is a fine sinew in this, is very granite sourced. Traditional style, is a good, muscular wine that is a shade strict. It persists on grainy, baked notes. Needs time: from 2014. 2026-28 Nov 2011" 4-5 Stars/6 Stars John Livingstone-Learmonth, DrinkRhone
