Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge Reserve Sixtine, Cuvee du Vatican 2009

Aged in barrel, this flagship Chateauneuf of the domaine is always backward when young, but starts to harmonized and integrate beautifully about five years from the vintage like any top-notch Bordeaux or Burgundy. It is such a unique and very complex Chateauneuf, evolving so brilliantly over the years as this beautifully balanced 2009. doubtless would. Powerful, muscular, and stylishly complex, with excellent acid balance for freshness and structure. A great Chateauneuf!

"Far more structured, with significant minerality, power and tannin is the dense ruby/purple-colored 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve Sixtine (45% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 25% Mourvedre). This cuvee is always aged in 100% small barrels, of which 9-10% are new. A backward wine for the vintage, it reveals serious structure, powerful tannin and abundant mineral notes backed up by full body and impressive layers of fruit and structure. It requires 4-5 years of cellaring, and should last 15-20 years thereafter." 91-94/100 Robert M. Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate

"Deep ruby. Dark berries and cherry compote on the nose, plus a hint of dried violet. Seamless dark berry flavors are joined by notes of bitter cherry and dark chocolate, accented by building smokiness. Echoes the cherry and smoky notes on a long, sappy, gently spicy finish. I like this wine's blend of richness and energy." 91/100 Josh Raynolds, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
