Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc, Clos des Papes 2008

Inventory Status: 2

One of the greatest and most consistent white Chateauneufs, and perhaps the most long-lived. This 2008 is capable of aging for decades like a great white Burgundy. This uses all the six grape varietals allowed for white Chateauneuf. The malolactic is blocked to retain the acidity. Then it is aged for six months in cask, with lees stirring. A rich wine with amazing depth of flavors and structure. Absolutely a rare treat!

"Rich but precise, with lots in reserve, as honeysuckle, macadamia nut, lime, quinine and white peach flavors glide through the finish. Pure and lengthy. Drink now through 2019. 700 cases made." 93/100 Wine Spectator

"Bright yellow. Sexy, highly perfumed bouquet of pear skin, orange, honey and green almond, with touches of smoky minerals, anise and honeysuckle. Fleshy and velvety in texture, offering gently sweet orchard and citrus fruit flavors and complicating notes of succulent herbs and bitter lemon pith. Clings impressively on the finish, with lingering notes of licorice and citrus blossom honey. This would work really well with rich poultry dishes." 92/100 Josh Raynolds, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
