Priorat "Finca Dofi", Alvaro Palacios 2002 (1.5L)

Alvaro Palacios rules from his spectacular estate high up in the mountains of Priorat in the enclave of Gratallops. Very old Grenache vines are planted there which Palacios exploits sensationally for this magnificent cuvee. A blend of just over half Grenache, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah from miniscule yields. Concentrated and very inky. On the palate this has a velvety smoothness and a rich, lush feel. The tannins are rich and integrate seamlessly with the fruit. Beautiful depth and complexity, and a very long, strong finish. A big and powerful wine for the ages! Very rare in this magnum.

"Deep, bright ruby-red. Explosive aromas of currant, violet, bitter chocolate and graphite. Juicy and pure but tightly wound, with the coolness of fruit that characterizes many Priorat wines from this difficult vintage. Firmly built, sharply delineated and fresh on the aftertaste. Still, this comes across as dry compared to L'Ermita." 90-92/100 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
